Abyss of the Pessimist
Mixed Media, 2014
Success is at the forefront of the contemporary person's mind acting as the pinnacle mechanism, which demonstrates their worth. This internal need to strive to achieve is a positive goal but does not come without its challenges.
Abyss of the Pessimist illustrates the internal mental struggles that occur when striving for success. Rejection is a part of life but does not lighten the pain that is inflicted when experienced. The thought of failure burdens a person's mind, hindering success through fear.
This artwork explores the point of which is considered "rock bottom" where life seems to have little meaning and the identity of a person is in ruins. Abyss of the Pessimist shows the challenges to a person's self worth and identity through the shattered mask. An impact that can often influence this emotion is the audience in which surrounds the person, embodied by the piercing eyes. However, with every challenge there is light at the end of the metaphorical tunnel leaving hope and the motivation to continue on the quest to success represented by the hanging chandelier.
