Between Realities

Between realities is an artwork the explores the burnout of modern-day working culture through the lens of a disorder known as depersonalization. Through this perspective the figure has been made faceless through a feeling of lack of control and emotional numbness that emanates from this. This notion is illustrated in the eyes being torn away from the figure face as the sense of purpose and direction leaves his life. A core element associated with the human psyche is the light of the soul’s inner spirit. The juxtaposition between the power plug replacing the facial features and the Chinese lanterns lighting the night sky represents the deep seeded issues related to how the constant pressures excelling within their professional life seeing the sense of identity stripped away and fading into the distance to keep up in the pace of meeting societal expectation. Within the frame a clock hangs in the balance slowly falling apart as the figure’s dreams fade into the distance.
