Blossoming of New Beginnings
Acrylic on Canvas | 2021
Blossoming of New Beginnings is an artwork inspired by the idea of death presenting the beginnings of new life and this continuous cycle that is seen every day with the passing of individuals replaced by the birth of new borns. Life is often thought of as a journey which collects memories within the mind; this is represented by the Polaroid seen in the centre of the composition which associated with the documentation of these memories. The narrative of a journey extends from this Polaroid in the form of a staircase leading out of the landscape into the unknown future that is worked towards with every step and decision made. Time is associated with sand in the traditional sense long linked to the sand hourglass which has been presented as a beach to set the scene. The concept of the eternal cycle within the composition starts with the birth of life represented by the shell in the centre of the work. Growing out of the shell is a cherry blossom tree that historically signifies the idea of birth but now symbolising the different stages of development in life that people experience from their inception into this world. Conversely, the cherry blossom tree can also represent death which is highlighted by the falling petals and is further exaggerated by the sunset presenting the end of a day in the background of the landscape. This surreal landscape creates a map of the eternal cycle of life within the context of a dream like atmosphere as to appear other worldly and out of humanities control as is a persons role to play in this cycle.
