Displeasing DinnerAcrylic on canvas, 2014
Displeasing Dinner expresses the contemporary struggle through the constant emphasis to include healthy foods within the daily diet. A well-known proverb that surrounds the symbolism of the apple "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" is a prime example of how this value is embedded within society. However, this does not always stay true to the want of the time. This constant emphasis on regular healthy eating can cause frustration and resentment towards certain foods with the bombardment evident in current trends reflected in societal values. Such values arise through gym memberships, health magazines or weight watching. Displeasing Dinner illustrates the frustration that can result from the over indulgence in what is considered healthy eating, without a space to grasp the pleasure of a treat or dish that is based on taste and desire than repercussions. |
