DualityEtching & Monoprint
2014 Duality is a series of etching and monoprint prints that explores the human body, with the central focus being the physical and emotional aspects of a person. In these works I have focused on tone, concentrating on positive and negative space as a symbol of the polarity of the human person. The issue addressed in Duality is the human form and the contrasts that exist within the self. The images consist of a head split open to reveal a spine which is continually expanding outside of the head. The motivation for this work was inspired by the constant and ongoing work load of the everyday man continually growing. The spine is a representation of the pain and agony experienced with an ever increasing work load within contemporary living. The spinal image can be associated with thorns or spikes which I have manipulated the human anatomy to embody and further communicate to the audience the sense of pain. |
