Scars of the Survivor
Acrylic on brown card , 2016
There is an eternal fate that will befall upon all living creatures
Time will pass but never truly be on our side
They say life is precious as a result of the limited time that exists
An expiration date unknown
What lies beyond this earthly existence is truly ominous
A destination that can never be confirmed
The sinking pitch black of night or the union with saints, family and friends in everlasting life
To neglect the reality of transitory time is to ignore the part of life that make the journey justify our ends
A point where time stands still and darkness reigns
This artwork was created in memory of my Grandfather and the truly terrifying experience he endured in his time of service during the second world war. Memorialising the scars that he was never able to escape after his service. The betrayal of allies, the loss of comrades, the life leaving a person that protected you with his life as you did for him now only watching his essence bleed out in the form of blood.
