Sounds of the subconscious

2024 |  Ready-made assemblage

Sounds of the Subconscious explores the slow and fragmented journey of thoughts emerging from the unconscious, filtering through the subconscious, and surfacing into conscious awareness during sleep. Arranged across three frames, the doll heads represent stages of this mental transition—their eyes closed in the first two, and partially open in the third, suggesting awakening or realization. Each wears headphones, symbolizing a tuning-in to internal noise while blocking out external perspectives. Below them, vintage square music tapes reference the repetitive, ambient tones—like elevator or waiting room music—that play within dreamscapes, suspending us in psychological processing.
In the second frame, the word “painkiller” is marked on the doll’s forehead, representing sleep as a form of emotional relief and the mind's attempt to sort through internal pain. By the third frame, a USB appears in the mouth of the doll, hinting at the extraction or storage of dream data—information finally beginning to upload into waking consciousness. Together, these elements reflect how sleep is not just rest, but a deeply personal process of emotional sorting. Sounds of the Subconscious invites viewers to consider how our dreams are shaped by internal feelings, uninterrupted by external interference, in search of resolution.
