The Chameleon
Photography, 2015
Social conformity has become part of what is considered normal, hidden within a crowd and individuality disguised producing an era of chameleons. The boulders are all similar to a degree within the realm of colour and shape. Popular cultures advertises what is considered as desirable and within this natural landscape an array of monochromatic boulders surround a singular and disfigured shaped rock in contrast to its environment. The shape in which this figure is illustrated, I see as creating an illusion of the individual rock morphing into a human form. A representation of the chameleon, this illusion highlights a hint of uniqueness emerging from within its shackles and draws new meaning from its change of structure. This central rock represents the spark of individuality of each person within society which will eventually surface and transform the nature of their surroundings through the unveiling of this new persona.
